Sue Lacey Bryant, Associate Director of GP Consortia Development/Chief Knowledge Officer, NHS Milton Keynes, chaired a lively and enjoyable event for over 35 people committed to sharing information and knowledge across the public health sector. She opened the evening with some thought provoking statements around the enormity of change the health service is experiencing, the likes of which have not been seen before in our lifetime; a health and social care bill has been released; an information revolution going on; to name a few. She also noted that we are viewing all of this mainly as librarians through an information lens; this does not necessarily take account of the different perspectives in health and social care such as clinical, patient and data quality analysis perspectives which are equally important in dealing with the changes and making for a more effective health and social care service.
The evening presentations came from Andrew Lambe, Knowledge Management Lead at DH Informatics, and his team who took us through how they are helping to implement knowledge management across the NHS by developing programmes in knowledge harvesting and capturing and sharing lessons learned. This was followed by a very interactive question and answer session and an analysis of the potential of applying a knowledge management framework across the health and social care sectors, an idea first developed at a CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer) summit for the public sector held by TFPL back in 2006.
The meeting was hosted by Lucy Reid at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
